“Estonia is like a wild strawberry: small, pristine, difficult to find… and those who don’t know how to, fail to recognise and value it. But once we possess it, once it’s ours, then it’s one of the best things of all.”
Toomas Hendrik Ilves, President of the Republic of Estonia

The Estonian flag, called “sinimustvalge” (blue-black-white), was first adopted on 21 November 1918. It was used as an international flag until 1940. The flag was officially re-adopted 7 August 1990 one year before its official restoration of independence.
A symbolism-interpretation says the blue is for the blue sky, the black for the soil and white for purity, hard work, and commitment.
